Klipriviersberg nature reserve is probably the closest hiking trail to Johannesburg which means you don’t have to wake up too early to get to the place but early enough to find some parking and get some snacks along the way. Unlike the other hiking places, this one is free.
There are numerous hiking trails you can take that are shorter but the longest one is called the Sunbird Trail. There are bricks showing the different coloured trails in which you will choose from and so you won’t get lost.
I had gone with a group of friends with varying fitness levels. The hike may have been short but there are steep levels to it and lovely spots to overview some of the suburban views. The downhills may be scary but you if you go down slowly you will be okay.
Some essentials that you would need on the hiking include but are not limited to
- banana and any other fruit you enjoy
- water – at least 1L
- a friend or two (or at least let someone know where you are)
- if its a bright sunny day – sunglasses would be advised
- comfy shoes and clothes
